Let’s catch up a bit.  INDATA stands for the Indiana Assistive Technology Act.  Its goal is to spread the word about assistive technology and make it readily available for Indiana residents with disabilities.  Here are the services we offer:

  • Device Demonstration Set up an appointment to learn how to use assistive technology devices.
  • Device Loan Borrow equipment for up to three months to help you decide if you could use it.  Follow these easy steps to set up an account and browse the various devices available for loan.

  • Reutilized Computer Program We repair and refresh donated computers and give them to people with disabilities that have no means to purchase one on their own.
  • AT Hour This one-hour presentation informs your group about the assistive technology programs and services provided by the INDATAProject and includes an exciting “show and tell” of various assistive technology equipment.
  • Information and Referral Questions about assistive technology? You can call our Information & Referral/Funding Specialist to learn more about available services and funding options.

Goodwill Industries of Michiana will be hosting this fine event on Thursday, October 29, from 12 to 4 p.m.  The INDATA project at Easter Seals Crossroads offers free demonstrations on assistive technology devices that focus primarily on autism.  Touch screens, adaptive keyboards, trackballs, visual and schedule assistant, and communication devices will all be showcased.

This is an open event for anyone interested in learning more about assistive technology, whether you use the devices or would just like to see how they operate.

Don’t miss it! Register by October 28 for a 30 minute appointment by contacting Carol Girt at cgirt@eastersealscrossroads.org or call 1-888-466-1314.  Goodwill Industries of Michiana is located on 1805 W. Western Ave. in South Bend.

As the name implies, INDATA is a statewide service for Indiana.  While our offices are located at Easter Seals Crossroads in Indianapolis, we travel throughout Indiana to get people’s hands on assistive technology (AT).  We conduct many “Demo Days” each year, where Carol Girt, our Loan Library Specialist, travels to our regional sites and gives AT demonstrations on particular topics.  Where are our regional sites, you say?  Take a look at the green dots below:

You can see that our regional sites are spread all over Indiana in an effort to make traveling most convenient for you!  We rotate between New Albany, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Merrillville, Bloomington, Centerville, Evansville, and Terre Haute demonstrating AT for different disabilities.  Topics include low vision, hearing impairments, aging, autism, aids for daily living, and learning disabilities.  Check out the Regional Assistive Technology Centers page on our web site for information and directions to our locations.

For a schedule of 2009′s Demo Days, visit the Event Calendar on the Easter Seals Tech web site. Once you click on a Demo Day, you will be given information as to when we will be in town, where we can meet you, and how to register for a demo.  It is imperative that you register before the day of the demo so that you can talk to Carol and she can narrow down what kinds of AT to bring to the demo.
